A note from our founder
A note from our founder
My first time visiting Kenya, I was genuinely surprised with how fast it began feeling like home. The people are so friendly, the food is delicious and familiar, and the accommodations are modern and upscale.
During my travels throughout the continent, I commonly hear tourists share stories about being scammed or taken advantage of, which is both frustrating and disheartening.
Living in Kenya for the last 2 years, I have had the great fortune to meet a network of wonderful Kenyans who have continuously help guide my family's journey. Their shared knowledge has not only greatly enhanced our overall experience here, but it has also saved us tons of time, energy, and resources.
With BlissPoint Travel, my hope is to build a global community that is willing to share useful, uncommon knowledge so that we can all blissfully enjoy the wonders our world has to offer.
Questions we hear most
Is Sierra Leone safe to visit?
Most visits pass without trouble, and Sierra Leoneans are famously welcoming. Petty theft, road accidents and health risks are the main concerns. Read the current UK, US or your own government's travel advice before you go.
Do I need a visa for Sierra Leone?
Most visitors need a visa, and many nationalities can apply online or get one on arrival. Rules vary by passport, so confirm on the official Sierra Leone immigration site before booking.
How do I get from the airport to Freetown?
Freetown International Airport is at Lungi, across the estuary from the city. Most travellers take the water taxi or ferry across, or the long road around. Check current services before you land.
What currency does Sierra Leone use?
The leone. The country redenominated the leone in 2022, so you may see old and new notes quoted. Bring clean US dollars or euros to change, and expect to use cash for most things.
When is the best time to visit Sierra Leone?
The dry season, roughly November to April, is best for beaches, roads and wildlife. The rains from June to September are among the heaviest in Africa.
What vaccinations do I need?
Proof of yellow fever vaccination is required for entry, and malaria prevention is strongly advised. Check your own health service's travel pages and see a travel clinic well before you go.
