Nauru destinations: where to go

Nauru is one small island, but it has distinct corners. Start here to see how Yaren, the reef and hotel at Anibare Bay, the green lagoon and wartime ridge of Topside, and the old phosphate port of Aiwo fit together on a single ring road.

Where you land

Yaren is where the airport, parliament and government offices sit. Nauru has no official capital, but Yaren is the closest thing to one, and it is where every visit begins.

The east coast

Anibare Bay is the island's best beach, a curve of sand framed by coral pinnacles, with the Menen Hotel close by. It is the place to swim in the sheltered harbour, walk the reef and watch the sunrise.

The island's interior

Buada Lagoon and Topside take you up onto the plateau. Buada is a freshwater lagoon ringed by palms, while Topside is the mined landscape of limestone pinnacles, crowned by the Japanese guns of Command Ridge.

The phosphate port

Aiwo on the west coast is the working heart of the island, with the giant phosphate cantilevers, the Civic Centre, Linkbelt Oval and the Od-N-Aiwo Hotel.

Putting it together
