Find your Bliss in Moldova
Moldova, made simple: vast wine cellars, cliff monasteries and a warm village welcome
Moldova is one of Europe's least visited countries and one of its most generous: a small, rolling land of vineyards, underground wine cities, a cave monastery above a river bend, painted wells and village tables that never seem to empty. It can feel unfamiliar, with two languages in daily use, cash habits, minibuses and the separate question of Transnistria. This guide takes the guesswork out so you travel with confidence.

The classic Moldova trip
Chișinău, the great cellars, Orheiul Vechi and the north
Most first trips base in Chișinău, a green, easy going capital of parks, markets and wine bars, and head out on day trips: the underground wine streets of Cricova and Mileștii Mici, the cave monastery of Orheiul Vechi above the Răut river, and the estate wineries of Château Vartely, Purcari or Castel Mimi. With more time, go north to the fortress of Soroca on the Dniester or south to Gagauzia. Five days shows you the heart of the country; a week or more lets you add village stays at a gentle pace.
- A tour of Cricova's underground wine city
- The cave monastery at Orheiul Vechi at sunset
- A long lunch at a family guesthouse in Butuceni
- Soroca fortress above the Dniester

A note from our founder
A note from our founder
My first time visiting Kenya, I was genuinely surprised with how fast it began feeling like home. The people are so friendly, the food is delicious and familiar, and the accommodations are modern and upscale.
During my travels throughout the continent, I commonly hear tourists share stories about being scammed or taken advantage of, which is both frustrating and disheartening.
Living in Kenya for the last 2 years, I have had the great fortune to meet a network of wonderful Kenyans who have continuously help guide my family's journey. Their shared knowledge has not only greatly enhanced our overall experience here, but it has also saved us tons of time, energy, and resources.
With BlissPoint Travel, my hope is to build a global community that is willing to share useful, uncommon knowledge so that we can all blissfully enjoy the wonders our world has to offer.
Questions we hear most
Is Moldova safe to visit?
Chișinău and the main tourist routes are generally calm and welcoming, with mostly petty crime to watch for. Governments give specific advice on Transnistria, the breakaway region in the east, and on the situation in neighbouring Ukraine, so read your own government's travel advice before you go.
What is the capital of Moldova?
Chișinău, in the centre of the country, about twenty to thirty minutes by road from Chișinău International Airport. It is the base for almost every trip.
Do I need a visa for Moldova?
Many passports, including those of the EU, the UK, the United States and Canada, currently get visa-free short stays, while others need an e-visa. Rules vary by nationality, so check the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova website before you book.
What is Moldova known for?
Wine above all: Cricova and Mileștii Mici hold some of the largest wine cellars in the world. It is also known for warm hospitality, the cave monastery at Orheiul Vechi, folk music and hearty food like mămăligă and plăcinte.
What money is used in Moldova?
The Moldovan leu. Cards work widely in Chișinău, but carry cash for markets, minibuses, villages and small guesthouses.
