Find your Bliss in Georgia

Georgia, made simple: mountain villages, ancient wine and the warmest table in the Caucasus

Georgia sits where Europe meets Asia: a small country of snow peaks and stone towers, a capital of wooden balconies and sulphur baths, vineyards where wine has been made in clay jars for eight thousand years, and a subtropical Black Sea coast. It can feel unfamiliar, with its own alphabet, long mountain roads and two breakaway regions to understand. This guide takes the guesswork out so you travel with confidence.

The classic Georgia trip

Tbilisi, wine country, the high Caucasus and the sea

Most first trips base in Tbilisi for three or four nights, with a half day at the ancient capital of Mtskheta. Then head east to the vineyards and walled hill town of Sighnaghi in Kakheti, and north up the Georgian Military Road to Stepantsminda and Gergeti Trinity Church below Mount Kazbek. With more time, cross west to Kutaisi's canyons and caves, the Black Sea at Batumi, or the stone towers of Svaneti. Ten days shows you the heart of the country; two weeks lets you reach the far mountains without rushing.

  • Sulphur baths and wooden balconies in Old Tbilisi
  • A supra feast and qvevri wine in Kakheti
  • Gergeti Trinity Church beneath Mount Kazbek
  • Medieval tower houses in Mestia and Ushguli

A note from our founder

A note from our founder

My first time visiting Kenya, I was genuinely surprised with how fast it began feeling like home. The people are so friendly, the food is delicious and familiar, and the accommodations are modern and upscale.

During my travels throughout the continent, I commonly hear tourists share stories about being scammed or taken advantage of, which is both frustrating and disheartening.

Living in Kenya for the last 2 years, I have had the great fortune to meet a network of wonderful Kenyans who have continuously help guide my family's journey. Their shared knowledge has not only greatly enhanced our overall experience here, but it has also saved us tons of time, energy, and resources.

With BlissPoint Travel, my hope is to build a global community that is willing to share useful, uncommon knowledge so that we can all blissfully enjoy the wonders our world has to offer.

Questions we hear most

Is Georgia safe to visit?

Tbilisi and the main tourist routes are generally safe and very welcoming, with low street crime. Governments advise against all travel to the breakaway regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, and there have been large political protests in central Tbilisi. Read your own government's travel advice before you go.

What is the capital of Georgia?

Tbilisi, on the Mtkvari river in the east of the country, about twenty to thirty minutes by road from Tbilisi International Airport.

Do I need a visa for Georgia?

Many passports, including those of the EU, the UK and the United States, currently get long visa-free stays, while others need an e-visa. Georgia has also introduced a health and travel insurance requirement for visitors. Rules vary by nationality, so check the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and its e-visa portal before you book.

Is this the country Georgia or the US state?

This guide covers the country of Georgia in the South Caucasus, bordered by Russia, Turkey, Armenia and Azerbaijan, with a coast on the Black Sea. Georgians call their country Sakartvelo.

What money is used in Georgia?

The Georgian lari. Cards and contactless payment work widely in Tbilisi and Batumi, but carry cash for markets, marshrutkas, villages and mountain guesthouses.
